The red maple's native range is broad across the eastern half of the United States, but the Norway maple's range is in Europe. By these definitions, red maple is native to North America and non-native to Europe. Effective communication in invasive species management relies on consistent and accurate terminology.

I think it’s important for indigenous people to have healthy outlets and creative activities that will connect them back to who they are. Whether, you are interested in our line of kids Native American clothing or simply our men’s / women’s lines, be sure to act fast since all our lines are limited. Shop our Native American clothing company today and support native artists. To begin to document and share these forgotten, neglected, and erased histories, we must not only archive and display the created works, but also learn the stories, processes, and histories of the individual makers or collectives. It’s great to see, in a room like Bear’s, that these works exist and have a place to sing.

Agreeing on terminology helps to clearly communicate so that everyone can understand what invasive species are and why there is concern about them. As bird enthusiasts, we shared with Rob our desire to have plants that would attract migrants and resident birds to our garden. The design didn't disappoint as we had buntings and grosbeaks stop by in the Spring and now have Warblers wintering near our residence. Rob also maintains an exceptional list of installers who share Robs attention to detail. Join the email list to make sure you don’t miss out on limited edition gear and the latest news.

It is important to note that species native to a specific location are also technically considered established. However, the term "established" is useful as it helps differentiate between non-native species that rely solely on human care (like crop species) and those that can survive, reproduce, and spread to new areas independently. For example, red maple (Acer rubrum) and Norway maple are found in the United States.

In 2017, Pueblo/Ute/Genízara creative Maida Branch established a collective of Indigenous and Indo-Hispanic artists. Dubbed Maida Goods, the platform is “an ever-evolving expression of ancestry, homecoming, diaspora forced and chosen, memory learned and lost, reclamation, and preservation,” as she puts it. Maida and her partner, Johnny Ortiz-Concha—who together raise criollo cattle and churro sheep on their New Mexico farm—share the stories of the creators behind the incredible art, pottery, and textiles on offer. She is a certified Native artist with her tribe, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa from North Dakota. Her indigenous family encompasses three tribal communities, Metis (Manitoba), Chippewa and Cree. Rachel’s illustrations can be seen in children’s books and on clothing.

In the 1870s, Brig. Gen. Richard Henry Pratt was a proponent of “Americanizing” indigenous communities and started government boarding schools that mandated cultural assimilation. He also provided art supplies to Kiowa, Comanche, Cheyenne and Arapaho prisoners of war at Ft. An inevitable aspect of educating non-Native society is disrupting the concept of authenticity; that is, what is considered “authentic” Indian art.

“Indigenous designers are innately more sustainable because we were raised to have a stronger connection to the earth and what it provides. Most of my items are made from upcycled, recycled, or all natural materials, and I am always trying to find ways to reinvent scrap material. We inherently created the idea of ‘no waste’ in common traditional practices like hunting and fishing. I’ll share some specific examples during the lecture, but, in general, for the first time in 500 years, Indigenous communities can control the design of our community.

History books, timelines, and collections can be limiting in their often narrow viewpoints. As many people currently grapple with what it means to be racially and culturally aware and not to appropriate from other cultures, it is vital that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) scholarship is visible. As a people who have been subject to colonization, subjugation, and attempted erasure, too many histories of Indigenous, Native American, and First Nations people are lacking, especially in design. The scene from Reservation Dogs, which aired on Hulu, a major, internationally distributed streaming service, presents a relatable moment in contemporary Native American life on an Oklahoma reservation. Right there on Bear’s wall were posters I was able to already know and recognize.
